Introducing Astra DB | Cloud Native Database-as-a-Service Built on Apache Cassandra | DataStax

Modern-day apps are moving to the cloud, and so is the rest of the world. Developers want the freedom and flexibility to deploy apps where they want and how they want them, all while managing their data with the highest level of security.

Introducing DataStax Astra cloud-native Cassandra Database-as-a-Service. Out of the box, Astra is the only multi-cloud, multi-region, cloud-native database-as-a-service that enables developer velocity by providing data-rich APIs to build and deploy data-driven applications at the global scale.

Best of all, Astra simplifies cloud-native Cassandra deployment from weeks to minutes and eliminates the overhead of setting up Cassandra. So you can move with speed and focus on the things that matter, like developing your application. With zero vendor lock-in, store your data when you need it, where you need it without compromising on performance, availability, and accessibility.

And did we mention no-ops on a global scale? Let Astra save you from having to configure Cassandra by providing automatic backups and restore, simplified administrative tools, and enterprise-grade security. Speaking of security, Astra is built securely from the ground up.

Databases are isolated from each other at the infrastructure level and all data at rest is encrypted. Astra also provides private connectivity options like VPC peering for organizations that need it. So what are you waiting for? Start building your applications on the world’s only cloud-native, scale-out, NoSQL database-as-a-service built on Apache Cassandra.

How to Create a Database with Astra DB in 2 Minutes ?

Hi, welcome to my website. Today I’m going to be walking you through how to get started with DataStax Astra. Astra is our Cassandra-based database-as-a-service, and we’ve added a whole new user interface to it. It’s easier than ever to get started, so let’s dive right in.

There’s no credit card required.

Just provide an email address and password or better yet, sign up with Google or Github with just a click. And we’re in. Now, let’s get started with creating our first database. If you choose the free tier plan, you get 5GB of free storage right off the bat, with no credit card required.

We also have multi-tier offerings for those who need to do more with their data. Select your cloud provider, and then your region of choice. Now, let’s give our database in the keyspace, a name, and password. Once you’ve got your database configured, let’s go over and click the create database button, and watch the magic happen. Behold, your very own database dashboard.

This is where you see the status of your databases and interact with them. I know what you’re thinking. So, what can we do with our newly created database? Let’s have a look. Interact directly with your database with Cassandra Query Language or CQL.
Through the CQL console, quickly check and see what’s going on with your data within Astra.

With the health tab, quickly check the current status of your cluster, ensure that your nodes are alive and well, monitor, read, and write performance, and much more. Astra makes it easy to connect to your database using the REST API or GraphQL. There is also, a GraphQL playground, where you can execute GraphQL queries, without leaving the Astra environment. Wanna get started quickly building your own app with Astra for the back-end?
